Benefits of a research journal:
As a method of research, study and reflection, it allows, in real-time, to confront experiences that arise at a very early stage of the investigation and, from there, to reflect and problematise questions that may be very useful to the work that is intended to be developed.
Since a diary is a document that requires frequent updating, it allows its author to be more involved in the research being carried out.
It also allows for an enormous benefit of time because we anticipate an organisation in the structure of the themes to be developed in the research project. In this sense, a diary is a first laboratory, an incubator of ideas that need to be worked on and reflected on, where theoretical concepts and, in this project, artistic practices are added.
The information, notes or ideas expressed in a diary, which may be fragile, are always a valuable help for the beginning and development of a project.
A diary allows us to anticipate methodological decisions, identify paths, and clarify doubts that arise during an investigation because we become aware of many inconsistencies during the investigation.
Not being a notebook, a “research diary” is a tool that motivates us for a daily work in progress. In the beginning, we have nothing, but as the days go by, a diary test confirms or questions our progress.
A diary records the hesitations, doubts, conflicts, and some successes throughout the investigation.
A diary also allows us to express an uncompromising opinion because, in a diary, it is assumed that nothing is definitive; everything can be reflected and changed again. Any deviation found in the journal can be corrected. In this way, we will always be connected for correction.
A diary is just a diary (a document) with all its weaknesses.
A “research diary” identifies milestones and reference points that allow us to mature ideas and concepts in a more mature phase of our research and correct our work before making it definitive.
It is also a place where experiences are kept, and memories are rescued.

Como método de pesquisa, estudo e reflexão permite, em tempo real, confrontar experiências que surgem num momento muito inicial da investigação e, a partir daí, reflectir e problematizar questões que poderão ser bastante úteis ao trabalho que se pretende desenvolver.
Sendo um diário um documento que requer frequente actualização, permite ao seu autor um maior envolvimento na pesquisa que se está a realizar.
Permite também um enorme benefício de tempo porque em grande parte antecipamos uma organização na estrutura dos temas a serem desenvolvidos no projecto de investigação. Neste sentido, um diário é um primeiro laboratório, uma incubadora de ideias a precisarem de ser trabalhadas, reflectidas, onde se vão adicionando conceitos teóricos e, neste projecto, práticas artísticas.
As informações, anotações ou ideias expressas num diário, podendo ser frágeis, constituem sempre uma valiosa ajuda para o início e desenvolvimento de um projecto.
Um diário permite-nos antecipar decisões metodológicas, identificar caminhos, esclarecer dúvidas que vão surgindo ao longo de uma investigação, porque tomamos consciência mais cedo de muitas inconsistências que nos vão surgindo ao longo deste percurso.
Não sendo um bloco de anotações, um “research diary” é uma ferramenta que nos motiva para um trabalho em progresso diário.
No princípio nada temos, mas com o decorrer dos dias, um diário testa, confirma ou coloca em causa o nosso progresso.
Um diário regista as hesitações, dúvidas, conflitos, alguns sucessos, ao longo da investigação.
Um diário permite-nos ainda emitir uma opinião descomprometida, porque num diário assume-se que nada é definitivo, tudo pode ser de novo reflectido e alterado. Desta forma, estaremos sempre conectados para a correcção. Qualquer desvio encontrado no diário pode ser corrigido.
Um diário é apenas um diário (um documento), com todas as suas fragilidades.
Um “research diary” identifica marcos, pontos de referência que numa fase mais madura da nossa investigação nos permitem polir ideias, conceitos e corrigir muito do nosso trabalho antes de nos decidirmos a torná-lo como definitivo.
É também um lugar onde se guardam experiências e se resgatam memórias.
